FTSAI Climate Risk Assessment Framework (CRAF) is a structured framework developed by the Financial Technology and Strategic Artificial Intelligence Laboratory (FTSAI Lab) at the University of Macedonia to support systematic and defensible climate risk assessment at the organisational level.
CRAF addresses a fundamental challenge in climate risk assessment: relevant evidence is often generated at different analytical levels and cannot automatically be transferred into organisational-level conclusions. The framework therefore distinguishes the principal dimensions of climate risk and organises their assessment through the analytical sequence:
Hazard → Exposure → Vulnerability / Resilience → Readiness / Adaptive Capacity
Rather than treating these dimensions as interchangeable indicators of climate risk, CRAF provides a structured approach for examining their relationships while preserving the boundaries of what the available evidence can legitimately support.
Particular emphasis is placed on traceability, interpretive discipline and defensible inference, allowing users to distinguish between the existence of climate-related evidence and the strength of the conclusions that may be drawn from it.
CRAF provides the methodological foundation for FTSAI Lab’s ongoing research on climate risk assessment and its applications to organisational and financial decision-making.
