Introducing the FTSAI Climate Risk Assessment Framework (CRAF)

The Financial Technology and Strategic Artificial Intelligence Laboratory (FTSAI Lab) at the University of Macedonia introduces the FTSAI Climate Risk Assessment Framework (CRAF), a research framework designed to support structured and defensible assessment of climate-related risk at the organisational level.

Climate risk assessment increasingly requires organisations to combine evidence originating from different analytical levels and sources. Climate hazards, organisational exposure, vulnerability, resilience, preparedness and adaptive capacity describe different dimensions of risk and cannot be treated as interchangeable measures. CRAF provides a structured architecture for integrating these dimensions while making explicit the boundaries within which evidence can support organisational-level conclusions.

The framework is organised around the analytical sequence:
Hazard → Exposure → Vulnerability / Resilience → Readiness / Adaptive Capacity

A central principle of CRAF is that climate-risk assessment should distinguish between the availability of relevant evidence and the strength of the inference that can legitimately be drawn from it. The framework therefore places particular emphasis on traceability, interpretive discipline and defensible inference.

CRAF forms part of FTSAI Lab’s broader research programme on climate risk, financial risk and organisational decision-making. It provides a common methodological foundation for ongoing research, empirical applications and future extensions.
