About Me
Dr. Athanasios I. Bozinis is an Assistant Professor in Global Political Economy and New Technologies – Biosecurity at the Department of International & European Studies, University of Macedonia, Greece. His academic expertise spans International Political Economy, Cybersecurity, Biosecurity, and Emerging Technologies in International Relations. He has been a Visiting Research Fellow at the Center for Technology and Global Affairs, Department of Politics and International Relations, University of Oxford (Trinity Term 2018) and an Associate Fellow at The Paul H. Nitze School of Advanced International Studies (SAIS Europe), Johns Hopkins University (2019-2021).
He holds a Ph.D. in Applied Informatics from the University of Macedonia, Greece (2006), with a dissertation on the applications and consequences of ICT in international economic and political relations. He also earned an M.Sc. in International Medicine – Health Crises Management from Athens University, Greece (2018) and a B.A. in International – European Economic and Political Studies from the University of Macedonia, Greece (2002). His research interests include the Global Political Economy of Science and Technology, Digital International Relations and Cyberstrategy, as well as Biosecurity and Bio-Hybrid Threats in International Relations.
Dr. Bozinis has authored multiple books and journal articles on Artificial Intelligence in International Relations, Cybersecurity, and Global Biosecurity. Some of his notable works include The Oxford Handbook of Ethics of AI (Editor, Papazisis Publications, 2024), Artificial Intelligence, Algorithmic Governance and Robotics in International Relations (Co-editor, Papazisis Publications, upcoming), and Hybrid and Emerging Threats in International Relations (Co-editor, 2025). Additionally, he has edited Greek editions of major international publications on cybersecurity and biosecurity.
With extensive teaching experience in both undergraduate and postgraduate programs, he has delivered courses on Global Political Economy, Cyberspace & Digital International Relations, Artificial Intelligence & Robotics in International Relations, and Biosecurity, Health Diplomacy & Disaster Medicine. He has also participated in numerous international conferences, presenting research on AI governance, cybersecurity, biosecurity threats, and global economic trends.
